Italian Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini on Friday stressed the urgent need for peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the new school year of the Italian army training institutes in Turin, reported by the Italian news agency AKI, Guerini said that the unjustified Russian attack saw Italy stand convinced by the suffering of the Ukrainian people in order to achieve a real and lasting peace as soon as possible that restores the principles of international law.
"An important country like Italy is called upon to be a leader within international forums and in the alliances of which it is a part, to make its contribution to the stability of different parts of the world, first and foremost in the vast region where our national interests lie, which is the Mediterranean region," he added, noting that "we are living in a season characterized by outbreak of multiple crisis hotbeds, whether flaring or potentially flammable."
