Elon Musk Announces Production of Tesla Electric Trucks

The Tesla Semi way truck has started production and the company starts delivering cargo from Dec. 1, the company’s founder Elon Musk announced on Twitter.

The automaker unveiled Tesla Semi way in 2017, where it was expected to start manufacturing large electric excavators by 2019.

While that obviously didn’t happen, Musk told employees in an email in early 2020 that the car was already in limited production and that it was “time to do our best to get to Tesla Semi production.”

However, in April of that year, the automaker announced in a earnings call that it was delaying deliveries again until 2021.

Unfortunately 2021 wasn’t the Semi Truck Production Year either as Tesla notified shareholders in another earnings call that deliveries would be delayed until 2022 due to a global supply chain shortage affecting the technology and automotive industries, as well as its then limited production capacity for 4680 style car battery cells.

Musk did not explicitly say that the company’s semi-truck component shortage issues had already been addressed. But if it has started building vehicles, and there is already an expected delivery date, Tesla should have at least enough parts to build Semis for its first customers.
